Hon. Peter Kalerwa Salasya is the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, elected in 2022 under the DAP-K party. Born in 1989, he attended Shanderema Primary School and Lubinu High School before earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Egerton University.

Before politics, he worked in banking and small businesses. His first attempt at the MP seat in 2017 was unsuccessful, but he persevered and won in 2022. Salasya is known for his grassroots engagement and active social media presence, using digital platforms to connect with voters. He advocates for youth empowerment and community development.

  • Early Political Aspirations: While at Egerton University, Salasya ventured into campus politics, initially running unsuccessfully for the position of Director of Academics in his first year. He made a subsequent attempt for the vice-chairman position in his third year.
  • 2017 General Election: In his first attempt at national politics, Salasya contested the Mumias East parliamentary seat in 2017 but secured only 254 votes, placing last among nine candidates.
  • 2022 General Election: Undeterred by his earlier defeat, Salasya ran again in 2022 under the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K) and won the Mumias East parliamentary seat.
