Born in 1972 in Ndamunge, Embu, she hails from a political family, with her father Joseph Njagi Mbarire serving as a long-serving councilor and later as an MP for Embu North. Mbarire’s political career began in university, where she was involved in student leadership. She later became an outspoken program coordinator for Youth Agenda in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1996.

In 2002, she was nominated to the Kenyan Parliament, where she served until 2007, when she was elected as the MP for Runyenjes under the PNU ticket. She has since been re-elected multiple times, representing different parties including TNA. Despite facing setbacks, including a loss in the 2017 Jubilee nominations for the governor’s seat, Mbarire made a significant comeback. In the 2022 elections, she was elected as the Governor of Embu County on the UDA ticket, securing 108,610 votes.

Mbarire is recognized for her resilience in overcoming challenges, including societal criticisms and political rivalry. Her leadership in Embu aims to foster economic growth and provide opportunities for residents.

Born in 1972 in Ndamunge, a tea-growing village in Runyenjes, Cecily comes from a political family, as her late father, Joseph Njagi Mbarire, was a long-serving councillor and MP for Embu North. She was educated at Egerton University, where she became the chairperson of the Students Association, and later pursued a post-graduate diploma in Gender and Development Studies, as well as a Global Executive MBA from the United States International University.

Mbarire's political journey began in 1996 when she became the Youth Coordinator for Youth Agenda in the Social Democratic Party (SDP). She was nominated to Parliament in 2002 under the SDP and later served as an Assistant Minister for Tourism. She was elected as the Member of Parliament for Runyenjes in 2007 and retained the seat in 2013, serving under the TNA party.

In 2017, after failing to secure the Jubilee nomination for Embu Governor, she was nominated to Parliament representing special interests. Her political fortunes turned in 2022 when she successfully ran for the Embu Governor's position under the UDA party, defeating her main rival Lenny Kivuti. Throughout her career, Mbarire has been involved in various leadership roles, such as serving as the Deputy Majority Whip in Parliament and chairing important parliamentary committees, including those focused on energy, agriculture, and climate change.

About Kenya Mpya

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
