Before entering politics, Kachapin had a successful career in education, serving as a senior principal at Tamkal Boys High School and Ortum Boys High School. His political career began when he became the inaugural Governor of West Pokot County in 2013, focusing on transformative initiatives in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. During his first term, he established institutions such as the Kapenguria Kenya Medical Training College and the Kapenguria Early Childhood Development Education College, and spearheaded the development of critical infrastructure like the Nasukuta Abattoir and the Makutano Market.
After his initial term, Kachapin served as a Chief Administrative Secretary in various ministries, including Energy, Education, and Water. In 2022, he successfully returned to the governorship under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
